An eco-minded clothing swap
A community leaving the world better than we found it!
The Good Loop, founded in 2019 by Makenzie Lowe, is transforming the way we approach fashion by bringing together communities for joyful, sustainably-minded, and accessible clothing swaps. Think raiding your BFF’s closet, but for the good of the planet.
We believe that fashion can be both beautiful and responsible. Our events create inclusive spaces where people come together to exchange clothing, build connections, and celebrate a shared commitment to reducing waste. By fostering a circular fashion economy, we are making sustainability fun, accessible, and impactful.
Through her studies at UCSD and time working for a sustainably focused fashion company, Makenzie recognized that when items were made ethically and workers were paid fairly, the price increased dramatically for the consumer. While ethical pay is the goal, she wanted to create a space without economic barriers for buyers who wanted to shop more sustainably - hence the free price point.
Giving back is at the heart of The Good Loop. From our very first swap, all remaining clothing has been donated to local shelters, reinforcing our commitment to both the environment and those in need.
With over 12,000 attendees and more than 30,000 gallons of clothing diverted from landfills, The Good Loop demonstrates the power of community-driven change.
Through 15 clothing swaps, across San Diego, Long Beach & Los Angeles, The Good Loop has brought together over 12,000 community members, redirected 30,000+ pieces of clothing from the landfill & donated over 15,000 items to our community in need.
Each single-day event brings in 500-1000 swappers. Our last two events have sold out in less than 24 hours, while our 5-day residency at Westfield UTC sold out in the first week.

How to Swap:
1. Bring Your Clothes
Bring gently-loved clothes that no longer spark joy for you—let them find a new home! We accept all styles and sizes—diversity is key! Don’t forget to RSVP to our event. Tickets are free but required for entrance. We ask that you bring no more than 10 items per person.
2. Swap & Shop
After you check in, hang your items on our provided hangers and racks and browse through the items brought by fellow swappers. Find unique pieces, refresh your wardrobe, and make mindful choices, all without spending a dime!
3. Give Back
Any remaining clothing is donated to local communities in need, ensuring nothing goes to waste and giving each item a second life. In the past, we’ve worked with The Alpha Project, Safe Place For Youth, New Life New Beginnings, and San Diego Rescue Mission.
The Pillars We
Stand On
-
The most sustainable way to shop is to shop what already exists. Together, we are helping redirect thousands of gallons of clothes from the landfill and back into homes of those who will use them.
Our goal is to close the clothing loop and provide an alternative to shopping new or buying secondhand by providing a space to do it for free. It's crucial we uphold a space that benefits the triple bottom line where we all benefit: swapper, community, and planet.
-
We are a space where you can be yourself, where you are welcome and belong, to share, to do-good, and to do your small part in shopping sustainably.
The power of community is so much stronger than the impact we can make alone!
Here, we are welcome just as we are, we find a sense of belonging, make new friends and simply find joy in exploring new ways of self expression through fashion.
-
Giving back extends beyond the act of swapping at each event.
With every event we have hosted, all remaining items have gone to a local shelter.
So far, we donated over 30,000+ gallons of clothes to our neighbors in need and have worked with 4 different shelters across San Diego, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Orange County.
-
The Good Loop is intended to be a safe and welcome space for everyone. Age, gender, race, size, economic background etc. We recognize that having excess clothes to swap is a privilege. As you may know, to promote inclusivity The Good Loop welcomes those who may not have items to swap but are just in need of clothes. We run on an honor system. We do not count your items, we do not sort through and judge your pieces for quality, we do not check to see that you’ve brought anything to participate. You come as you are with whatever your intention is - to share, to promote sustainable shopping, to give back, or to be provided with what you may need and be joyous together!
